I have a love/hate relationship with mini sessions or my “Short Story” sessions as I love to call them. As a mother I love them but as a photographer I don’t like them. I feel like I am throwing prompts out quickly and it goes by like BAM, BAM, BAM. I sometimes feel like I don’t have enough time to let the littles warm up to me. But like I said, as a mother I love them because it can sometimes feel chaotic trying to manage all the kids- I have 4 between the ages of 6 and 2.
As a photographer, I embrace the chaos like a warm hug and I believe that stage of life is beautiful and deserves to be photographed too.
What I usually do for littles is let them take charge and keep them moving. Let them play games with mom and dad. Or ask where they want to take photos. I gently tell moms and dads to just smile through it no matter what is happening.
Here is a Short Story session where the little girl was giving me the cheekiest little smiles. How cute is this family!?
